Claire Garry’s practice is made up of two working methods; she has a studio practice that focuses on using yarn and other textiles to transform everyday items of furniture etc to create sculptural sensory experiences for the outdoors.
She also develops work in a range of workshop led and collaborative situations with people with additional needs.Claire’s work is fuelled by her love of colour and texture. Her early career was as an interior designer and there is a humour to her use of everyday items to create interactive sensory gardens.
Taking inspiration from what is considered ‘broken’, both in the studio and in society, she turns everyday objects into things of beauty that delight the eye and feed the soul.
Claire’s work with people with additional needs is a major source of creativity for Claire and she encourages collaboration and participation at every point of the creative process.
Claire has been teaching a wide range of creative activities; from art to sewing, weaving to tapestry for over a decade.
